Course Description

The Advanced Diploma of Civil Works Design reflects a vital role as a senior civil works designer or a support figure to professional engineers. You’ll tackle diverse, specialized, and technical tasks, including strategic planning and project initiation. Your responsibilities include designing complex projects to meet client needs, using your knowledge and skills to solve technical problems and manage projects effectively.

  • Duration: This course will be delivered over 104 weeks, including 80 weeks of delivery and 24 weeks of holidays. Students are required to attend a minimum of 20 scheduled course contact hours per week.
  • Pre-requisites: There are no prerequisites for this qualification.
  • Mode of Study: Students are required to attend 15 hours of face-to-face classroom instruction and 5 hours of online training via MS Teams synchronously each week. Students are required to attend 20 hours of training per week.

  • Course Structure: To achieve qualification RII60520 - Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design, students must complete the following 12 units of competencies:5 core units, plus, 7 elective units.
  • Assessment Methods: The Advanced Diploma of Civil Construction Design course may include assessment methods such as practical demonstrations of culinary skills, Case studies, Projects, Reports, Presentations/Role plays, Knowledge Test and Research.
  • Pathways from the qualification: Successful completion may enable the student to pursue higher education opportunities such as Graduate Diploma qualifications, as well as higher education qualifications in Civil Construction or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) at other institutions.

Entry Requirements

  • Be 18 years or over
  • Successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent
  • Be competent in written and spoken English with an IELTS Score of no less than 6 or equivalent language test score
  • IELTS score of 5.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) before the main VET course, or
  • IELTS score of 5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) before the main VET course.
  • Results older than two years are not acceptable.
  • Other acceptable English language tests include TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), and TOEFL PBT.
  • Any AQF qualification at the Certificate III level or above in any discipline area delivered and assessed in English only will be deemed as meeting both the academic and English language entry requirements.

Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Requirement

  • All applicants must undertake a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test prior to enrolment. This ensures that appropriate academic support can be provided if required and that students are set up for success throughout their course.

Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

  • Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available for eligible students. Evidence must be provided for assessment. Visit our website for full details.

Student Equipment Requirements

  • Students should have access to a computer, laptop or tablet with internet connection to participate in online components of the course, complete assessments, and access digital learning materials. Basic stationery is also recommended. Charging facilities may not be available in classrooms.

Entry Requirements

  • Age Requirements: Students must be above 18 years of age when filling out the application form.
  • Pre-training Review (PTR): A PTR will be conducted before enrolment to ensure that the training meets individual needs. The PTR form must be submitted with the application form, and it covers a review of current competencies, English level, support requirements, and oral communication skills.

English Language Requirements for International Students:

  • Minimum IELTS (General) test score of 5.5 or equivalent for direct entry into a VET course.
  • IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 10 weeks) before the main VET course.
  • IELTS score of 4.5 or equivalent with an ELICOS course (up to 20 weeks) before the main VET course.
  • Results older than two years are not acceptable.
  • Other acceptable English language tests include TOEFL iBT, PTE Academic, Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE), and TOEFL PBT.

Academic Requirements:

Successful completion of year 12/Senior Secondary School studies in the home country equivalent to the Australian Senior Secondary School Examination (Year 12).

 

Mature Age students without minimum education requirements must demonstrate relevant work experience and a capacity to meet course requirements.

  • Language, Literacy, and Numeracy Test (LLN): Students must undertake an LLN test to ensure sound numeracy skills. Support will be provided based on the test outcome.
  • Computer Literacy Requirements: Basic computer skills are required. Students without these skills will receive support or may be referred for basic computer training.
  • Materials and Equipment Required: Access to a laptop or computer with the Windows 7 operating system or higher is needed for self-study. An active email address is required for communication.
